Consistently keeping a home that is considered stylish and modern can be somewhat of a struggle; often designs and features come into fashion that we cannot always afford or add to our homes. Much like trends in clothes, many people wish to keep the appearance of their homes as sleek and presentable as possible, filling each room with modern and stylish features to ensure visitors and guests get the full effect of their eye for interior design. There are several ways to add fresh style in your household with the use of several modern and contemporary features suited to each room. So with this in mind, let's look at some great ways to add a modern twist to your home!

Attention to Detail

You would be delighted and surprised when you see how much of a difference small features can make in your home. Adding stylish fixtures such as designer kitchen taps, well matched or periodic light switches, lamps, artwork, ornaments and even doorknobs can all contribute towards creating a stylish designer home that hour can be proud of! Pay attention to the smaller aspects of your house that look generic, mismatched and underwhelming and replace them over time with more thoughtful and contemporary features.

Effective Lighting

Highlighting your favourite and most stylish rooms with well-chosen and strategically placed lighting can add effect to any room or feature and make it aesthetically spectacular. If you have a particular wall you wish to add extra life to such as the central wall in a living room, place wall mounted lights equidistant from the centre. It is important to create a look of symmetry with wall mounted lights, anything less would look wrong and become frustrating. Tall and table-mounted lamps can be great for adding a warm glow to gloomy corners and really brighten up those previously dark areas of each room.

Focal Furniture

Adding modern furniture to your home can really bring the entire design together, but it is important to be consistent. Colours, textures and designs must be reflected throughout the rest of the room that each piece is applied in; for example if you purchase a vintage lamp for the bedroom, you should try to create a theme or style that this is well matched to. Be sure to think ahead when buying expensive furniture; paying hundreds for a new couch only to realise it looks horrible in the style of room you have created will be a huge let down!

So there we have some helpful and thoughtful ideas that could aid you in your quest to create a contemporary and desirable home!
