Crew Neck

The crew neck shirt is often thought of as the 'traditional' t-shirt. This shirt's rounded neckline is designed to be comfortable as well as stylish.

Originally, the crew neck shirt was designed to be worn under the padding of American football players. This shirt was intended to prevent chafing while absorbing sweat. Many modern businessmen use these t-shirts under suits and formal wear. Because the crew neck shirt does not have a collar of its own, it can be worn under a collared dress shirt to absorb sweat or keep the wearer warm.

In recent years, the crew neck shirt has become a unisex wardrobe staple. The simple design works well with jeans and slacks. Finding a good fit is especially important for a crew neck t-shirt. If the shirt is too small, the relatively narrow neck will not fit comfortably over the wearer's head.

V-Neck

The V-neck shirt usually resembles the crew neck, except the neckline is cut in a distinctive V shape. V-necks are popular for sportswear because their comparatively low necklines are less likely to press against an athlete's windpipe.

Because the V-neck shirt draws the viewer's eye to the face, many men find this style of t-shirt particularly flattering. Adventurous wearers may want to choose a lower neck that exposes a small portion of the wearer's chest. These t-shirts are ideal for layering; the lower V-neck could reveal a segment of a crew neck in a contrasting colour.

Scoop Neck

The scoop neck is often considered a trendier version of the crew neck. Like the more traditional shirt, this t-shirt's neck is curved. The scoop neck is larger, revealing more of the wearer's chest or shoulders. This can draw attention to a man's face and collarbone.

A tightly fitted scoop neck t-shirt can be used to highlight a wearer's physique. Like the V-neck shirt, the low neckline of this style makes it a popular choice for athletes. Stylish scoop neck shirts are often designed to be worn loose; the shirt's artful drapery is intended to contrast with tight jeans.

Cowl Neck

The cowl neck includes a loose-fitting collar that usually rides higher than the crew neck. This high neck is ideal for keeping warm in chilly weather. Although, some modern versions of the cowl neck are made with a looser and lower neckline.

Typically, shirts with a cowl neck are designed to hang loosely on the wearer's body. This trendy style is a comfortable alternative to tight shirts for a night on the town. Cowl neck shirts are usually made of soft material that drapes well.

Vest

Vests have traditionally been made of a variety of materials, from leather to silk and cotton. These sleeveless garments are designed to keep the wearer warm in inclement weather without limiting movement. Because the body's core tends to lose heat quickly in cold weather, vests cover the most sensitive area of the body while leaving the wearer's arms free.

Many people consider the sleeveless t-shirt to be a style of vest. Sleeveless shirts have become popular among athletes as well as stylish men. These t-shirts usually have a tight fit that emphasizes the wearer's physique while drawing attention to his bare arms.

Long Sleeved T-Shirt

Long sleeved t-shirts are a popular alternative to short sleeved shirts in chilly weather. These shirts may have crew necks, V-necks, scoop necks or cowl necks. While some are designed to be worn as athletic gear or undergarments, others are intended to be worn as outerwear.
