These days it's much easier to find a buyer who wants to move straight in than one who wants to renovate, remodel, or even redecorate. Ask any buyer what they look for in a potential home and one of the first things they'll say is 'a great kitchen'. If your kitchen is out of date or worse for wear then a transformation will make your property much more marketable. Take a look at these five changes you could make that won't break the bank or require the backbreaking work of a kitchen renovation.

1. Change your Kitchen Cabinet Doors

If your kitchen is sound but dated then why go to the expense of a complete remodel? Simply replace your old kitchen cabinet doors with new ones. You'll find thousands of different doors online to suit all tastes and budgets. You can even try a trick of the interior design trade and put designer handles on your bog standard doors to create the illusion of a brand new designer kitchen. One even quicker way to give your kitchen a more high end feel is to integrate your white goods by concealing them behind matching cupboard doors.

2. Open Up

Knocking down a wall or building an extension is a large expense and a huge commitment, but if your kitchen window looks onto your garden, you could add value much more quickly by turning it into French doors. It's not as easy as a lick of paint but it will take a lot less time and be much cheaper than serious renovations. You'll also allow more light into the space and improve garden access - ideal for families.

3. Lick of Paint

Often all a room needs is a lick of paint to brighten it up and make it feel clean and fresh. Kitchens build up dirt over time so you could find that giving your units a good degrease will make them look brand new. It's essential to wash the walls before you paint and if you're painting tile the best way to get an even effect is by gradually building up lots of thin layers.

4. Social Space

A social area will make your kitchen much more desirable so if you don't have a table and chairs then try to fit them in. Often, if you replace a window with doors, your old door can be blocked in, creating an ideal eating area. If there's simply not enough space then make sure you compensate with a dining space somewhere else in your home.

5. Floor It

A tired, dated or damaged kitchen floor is a huge turn off for buyers so if yours has seen better days then replace it. Laminate, vinyl and lino are all quick to lay and easy to look after, but don't lay laminate or vinyl on top of tile without the right underlay or after a while the outline of your tiles will start to show through.
