The advent of smartphones, tablets, laptops and other devices has given birth to newer possibilities available in our society today, and now this includes the book-less library and technologically enhanced audience response systems. In the fall of 2013, the Bexar County of San Antonio will be the new home of the "Biblio Tech" It will become America's very first public library that will have no books at all. The books you will find are not books you can physically hold, but e-books.

The more than four thousand square feet space is a very modern design. It was the concept of Bexar County's judge, Nelson Wolff. He got the inspiration after reading Steve Jobs' biography, written by Walter Issacson, as reported by ABC News. There will be aisled of gadgets and computers instead of having tons of books. The place will be having 100 e-readers as a start, which can be taken out, and fifty e-readers for kids, fifty computers, twenty five tablets and twenty five laptops.

The technological changes in the society is inevitable, even big fans of hardcover books, by now have realized that e-books will be one of the best ways to bring a new kind of service to communities. The people going to the library can take the e-books for a specific duration or they can bring their own e-reader and load the content onto their device. The library also has plans to partner with companies providing e-books, so access to more than ten thousand e-books can be granted. They wish to add more to the collection in a yearly basis, but the place will not be entirely paperless, if the readers want to have copies printed they can do so at the library by requesting it.

Another device that has become a common feature in our communities is the audience response keypads, part of a complete audience response system. An audience response system is also more popularly known as "clickers." It is a complete set up with keypads, base stations and the software. It lets you poll answers automatically with just one click on a keypad. This device has become more prevalent in the classroom use as well as company events to help speed up the process of interactive meetings and events. In the classroom setting the ARS is more commonly known also as student response systems.

One of the latest keypads is the Powercom's Ativa keypad. It is a colored touch screen keypad. It has an LCD screen, where you can actually see the questions and click your answers. It has a smartcard reader where you can input your questions, and you simply insert it for self-paced testing questions. This keypad actually resembles a smartphone. It has a power on and off button, and uses the lithium Polymer battery that is rechargeable, which will last for two years. Some of the applications of the Ativa keypad are mock jury, marke research, surveys and self paced testing.
