Just a few weeks ago I reviewed another offering from the Recanati Winery in northern Israel. Instead of a Chardonnay this is a white blend, 50% Sauvignon Blanc, 25% Emerald Riesling, and 25% French Colombard. The latter two grapes have lost favor in Israel, but never had much favor anywhere else. But since Recanati often does a good job, I thought to give it a chance. While I paid about $15 you can find it for less, perhaps much less on the web. The companion wine is an Argentine Sauvignon Blanc-Semillon blend costing about $8.

OUR WINE REVIEW POLICY All wines that we taste and review are purchased at the full retail price. Wine Reviewed Recanati Yasmin 2011 12.4 % alcohol about $12.

In the absence of marketing materials we'll start by quoting the back label. "A harmonious, flavorful white from the sun-kissed Mediterranean vineyards of Israel. Yasmin is the perfect all-occasion wine. With its enticing aromas and flavors of tropical fruit, Yasmin is a stylish wine ideally paired with appetizers, fish, poultry and vegetarian entrées." And now for my review.

At the first sips this wine tasted rich. It was burnt and oaky with good acidity. Wasabi-covered peanuts rounded it. A barbecued chicken thigh in sweet and sour sauce rendered this liquid light and I tasted toast in the background. When paired with wings the wine enveloped the sweetness of the meat. The side dish of crushed tomatoes, mushrooms, and onions over quinoa provided toasty oak, which was not overdone. Dessert was homemade fruit compote. All I got was a little bit of light oak.

My next meal consisted of a boxed Baked Ziti Siciliano. Our Israeli friend became ethereal. It offered wood and metal with bright acidity. The side dish of steamed broccoli virtually gutted the libation that became a shadow of itself in the background. Fresh strawberries muted this liquid but the taste of burnt sort of remained.

My final meal centered on an omelet perked up with dried basil, black pepper, chilies, and sliced garlic. Our blend was slightly metallic. It had fine length and once again the taste of burnt in the background. Potato salad laced with pickles increased the drink's acidity. A side dish of zesty guacamole rendered the liquid subtle and distinctive. Fresh raspberries imparted a tinge of caramel and virtually nothing else to the Recanati.

Final verdict. I will probably buy this wine again, even at the price I have to pay. The Internet price would make it a definite repeat.
